Purple Insect Traps
May 24, 2012 /
You may notice purple insect traps hanging from trees around our community and throughout Vermont. The state
is very concerned about encroaching invasive insect species, particularly the Emerald Ash Borer and the Asian Long Horn Beetle. Either of these insects can quickly devastate our forests by killing several dominate tree species if left unchecked. The purple color is attractive to both of these pests, and the sticky covering will keep them in place for monitoring. Please leave these traps alone
so the state biologists can collect valuable data for this long term program.
