Under the Gun
Today there was a noise outside Falls Brook Common that made us all cheer! The guns around the Sunrise Chair were fired up and blowing snow! Upon checking the Killington web site, https://www.killington.com/the-mountain/conditions-weather/lifts-trails-report Bear Cub, Bearly, Ridgeview, Bear View, and Sun Dog are under the snowmaking guns. With that encouraging news, the Sunrise Lift may be open for the season on Wednesday, January 13th. Hallelujah!
Sunday was a lovely day at Killington. The skies were a deep blue, with a cloud cover inversion to make the winter views spectacular. Pico was picturesque with a shawl of clouds around her shoulder.
The trail conditions were not quite as spectacular. Wildfire from top to bottom was good in the morning, however by mid-afternoon it was pretty scraped off. Most of the trails were groomed, so it was ho-hum turns from Chute to Bear Claw. Except for Superstar! The headwall was pretty good, the middle was very good, but that bottom pitch was scary! The conditions were very icy with “shark’s teeth” moguls that looked like they were chewing up intermediate and novice skiers and riders. While going up the chair, you could see all the downed skiers strewn in the troughs between the teeth-like moguls! Until the bottom pitch is groomed, or if you have a need to ski giant sharp moguls and ice, stay away.
The forecast is somewhat optimistic with snow showers arriving Saturday, and more snow in the forecast for the following week. Until then, sharpen your edges!
