Side Country at Sunrise!

Is it a secret that the hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the woods next to FBC is amazing? Saturday afternoon I was out for a kick and glide on skinny skis with my friend and co-worker, Iris, and we found about 4-6” of untracked trails to ski. It was the first tour on my new cross-country ski equipment. The skis are so light, thin, springy, and dainty! The boots remind me of ballet slippers! What a switch from clunky Lang boots and fat all-mountain skis!

Aside from the occasional snowmobile group, the tour through the trees were peaceful, scenic, and away from the hubbub of Killington Ski Resort. One of the beautiful things about living here is to tip and rip on the trails at the Beast of the East; then take an afternoon to reconnect with nature, friends, and family in the Sunrise Side Country. We encourage you to get out and give it a go!

For those who are not familiar with all the amenities at Sunrise, the Snowshoe Hut is open to Sunrise homeowners, family, and guests. You will find an assortment of snowshoes, ice skates and cross-country ski equipment. We ask that the equipment be returned at the conclusion of your outdoor experience.

Skiing on Sunday morning was not for sissies! Freezing temps and freakishly strong winds prevented me from taking any photos. With that said, Outer Limits was fantastic! A Styrofoam-like surface with a 2” cover of snow made for great medium-radius carving turns with powdery rooster tails.
