When the Rope Drops…The Fun Begins!
There is a collective “Oh darn” when Needles Eye trail is closed for race training. However, lapping the Needles Chair provides the opportunity to drop into Needles when the morning race training concludes. Since the racers are focused on running gates, the un-touched terrain on skier’s right (under the Stage 2 Gondi) becomes a mid-day delight! That was the case on Wednesday. The bumps were covered with 3 to 4 inches of soft powder which made for playful zipper lines to ski or ride. FYI: Instead of taking scraped and rutted Panic Button to Needles, shoot over to upper Needles trail to access skier’s right on Needles.
The tree skiing improves daily with the fast-moving flurries that freshen up the many tree lines. Get out and enjoy low-angle Treezy and Squeeze Play tree lines. Or lose yourself in Somewhere or Nowhere! Whichever tree trail you ski, go with a buddy, remove pole straps, and smear your turns to avoid trashing your edges on rocks and stumps.
