The January Deep Freeze
Another frigid week in the books for the stalwart ski and ride enthusiasts at Killington. A year ago in January 2021, the temperatures were about the same. FREEZING COLD! Stockpiling a supply of handwarmers, neck gaiters, sub-zero base layers, and hot chocolate in the pantry for the month of January is essential to enjoying the slopes in Vermont. Prepare for another chilly weekend on the mountain!
Onto the trails report. The view of Cascade from the K-1 Gondi is encouraging. There were giant piles of manmade snow from the Cascade “Experts Only” Gate to just above the intersections of Escapade & Flume. The groomers will be having a heyday grinding and pushing that snow around for great coverage this coming weekend. The Killington Lift & Trails Report state the snowmaking will move to Downdraft so we could have another long signature trail to enjoy this weekend. Advise for negotiating natural snow trails: keep your head up and eyes ahead to anticipate sudden check turns and escape routes to avoid the bony spots. Some natural snow trails have better coverage for more consecutive turns.
If you have not already, stop by the Sunrise Bar & Grill for an Après-Ski drink and meal. The hours are posted on the website.
Enjoy the January ski conditions!
