Slow Start to the Season
The past month is like a “Groundhog Day” bad dream from 2021. The Omicron variant and the lack of staffing at Killington has set the snow recovery and lift opening efforts back for the time being. Current recovery efforts are being made to Snowshed, Ramshead, Snowdon, Killington, and a few Bear Mountain trails. Please take a good look at the Killington lifts and reports page; about half the trails on each mountain remain closed, and the other half are open and groomed. https://www.killington.com/the-mountain/conditions-weather/lifts-trails-report.
The current conditions are consistent throughout the mountain. Groomed, hard, and fast! Be sure to head out with tuned skis or boards to tip and rip down Cruise Control, Bittersweet, Skyelark, Chute, and Bunny Buster to name a few.
We need snow desperately! Time to get superstitious and pay homage to Ullr, the Norse Snow God. A bonfire of old skis, holey long underwear, old ski passes, hats, moldy mittens, smelly socks that stand up on their own, and anything flammable that pertains to our favorite sport to honor Ullr will be appreciated. If you can’t build a bonfire, then do the next best thing…raise a glass and make a toast to his frosty eminence! The Sunrise Bar & Grill will be happy to accommodate you this weekend!
Regarding the Sunrise Lift, we continue to have a dialogue with Killington Mountain Operations to come up with viable solutions to the serious lack of snow and staffing. In the meantime, Killington will provide a shuttle service from the FBC to Bear Mountain and beyond.
