Bears Are on the Prowl For an Easy Meal!
Bears are enthusiastically on the prowl for an easy meal. Please follow the trash policies listed below to prevent the bears from becoming Sunrise residents.
For homeowners who rent their unit, please convey to your rental guests the importance of following the trash protocols listed below. Also, for homeowners who use a rental agency, please forward the same information to them regarding the trash procedures.
TRASH DROP OFF TIMES AT TRASH HUTS
- Trash must be dropped off between 7:00 am and 1:00 pm. If you are leaving Sunrise after 1:00 pm or need to dispose of trash outside of this schedule, it is essential you call the office to schedule a trash pick-up.
- All trash, including recyclables, must be bagged, and tied securely.
- Loose trash is not permitted in the community trash huts; and it is more important now than ever to make sure trash is contained in a well-sealed bag.
- All boxes must be broken down.
- Sunrise is responsible for non-hazardous household trash only. Large items, furniture, electronic equipment, and hazardous waste should not be put in the trash huts. Please call the office to arrange for proper disposal.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU MISS THE TRASH DROP-OFF WINDOW?
- Please wait until the next business day to put the trash out during designated trash drop-off hours.
- If you are departing Sunrise, please leave trash INSIDE the entryway of your unit and notify the office via 802-422-9494 or ralmo@sunrisevt.com. It will be picked up the next business day.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW THE TRASH SCHEDULE?
If trash is left outside in the evening hours, black bears will undoubtedly sniff it out and help themselves to an easy meal. When black bears have repeated success accessing human food in the same trash bin, they establish that bin as their territory and stick around; this poses a threat to human safety, and also to their own safety. This falls in line with the saying “A fed bear is a dead bear.”
For the safety of Sunrise homeowners and their pets, and for the safety of bears and their cubs, homeowners and their guests are required to adhere to the trash schedule.
