Is it Snow or Is it Stucco?

So much for powder/packed powder conditions! The past snowstorm was not what we wanted or expected. The warm daytime temps and the unusual precipitation on Tuesday made for very good ski conditions. Then Tuesday night, the temperatures dropped rapidly and turned the snow into a stucco-like surface. Stucco is a construction material that is applied wet and hardens to a very dense solid. On Wednesday, the trails and trees were covered with it! It was daring to ski any ungroomed trail that was open! When the snow piles do not move and the fillings in your teeth get rattled on every turn you know that packed powder conditions are just a sweet memory.

However, Killington’s fleet of groomers will have over 80 trails ready for your carving pleasure this weekend. By Sunday, the temperatures are supposed to rise enough to soften up the terrain before the next snow event arrives on Monday. Hopefully, this snowstorm will not be made of construction material.
